My name is Jessica Thompson, and I am a junior at the University of Maryland majoring in communication with a focus in public relations and economics. I was born and raised in Maryland, attending public schools in the top 10 list of National Blue Ribbon Schools. I even had the glorious opportunity to be taught by the teaching assistant of the 2011 National Teacher of the Year, because her new tour schedule took her away from teaching students at my high school that year. In high school I constantly felt like my education was not benefiting from the race to be the “best of the brightest.”
Due to my past experiences, I have an interest in new education practices for the benefit of students in higher education, not just program rankings.
